COVID-19 PANDEMIC HEALTH TIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The pandemic, COVID-19( corona virus disease, 2019) of the virus strain SARS-coV-2 is a pneumonia of idiopathic cause that was first detected in Wuhan, China. It was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30th January, 2020.

Yes! there is a lot of panic globally especially among international students, hence there is a great need for both physical and mental health tips on how to stay safe during this COVID-19 outbreak. Here are some useful health tips for international students against COVID-19:

BEWARE OF THE SYMPTOMS AND RISK FACTORS
Fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath, pink eyes are possible symptoms of COVID-19 according to World Health Organization( WHO). Also, the aged, people with heart problems, people in aged care facilities and travelers are at risk of this Pandemic hence extra precautions should be taken.

AVOID TRAVELING :
International students as well as everyone are advised to avoid traveling as humans move the corona virus!

BE SURE OF YOUR SOURCE OF INFORMATION ON COVID-19 AND USE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO EDUCATE OTHERS:
In as much as we all need to be informed and educated about the dynamic alerts and media coverage of the spread of corona virus, International students need to also protect their mental health as these pieces of information can instill fear and anxiety among individuals. Be sure to get authentic information from World health Organization (WHO) platforms. Ensure not to disseminate fake or wrong information on COVID-19 as this can worsen the problem.

PRACTICE PROPER HAND WASHING, SOCIAL DISTANCING, HAND AND SURFACE SANITIZING.
Just washing your hands is not enough information, but the knowledge and practice of proper hand washing is important ;

  • First, wet the hands with a clean and safe running water.
  • Apply a good quantity of soap(preferably liquid antiseptic soap) on the wet hands.
  • Then scrub all parts of the hands thoroughly (back of the hands, inbetween fingers, under nails) for some seconds.
  • Rinse the hands thoroughly with clean running water.
  • Now,dry hands with a dry single-use towel.
  • Avoid touching the face with your hands as this can transmit the virus.

USE OF PROTECTIVE MATERIALS:
International students with or without the listed symptoms of COVID-19 should as a matter of necessity use hand gloves and face masks since they have been proven to help curb the transmission of the disease.

AVOID PANICKING TO PRESERVE MENTAL HEALTH :
Yes, it is reasonable to expect increase in VISA appointment cancellations and close of embassies globally, this has put the educational journey of most international students to a halt. Some international students have their families staying away from them, maybe in a country with high incidence of COVID-19 outbreak. All these can cause panic and anxiety, but we all are advised to stay calm and safe as COVID-19 pandemic will be contained as soon as possible and all activities will return to normancy.

DISCOVER YOUR COUNTRY'S LIFELINES IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY :

All countries round the globe are fighting hard to contain this COVID-19 pandemic, hence lifelines are available in all countries. It is worthwhile to discover lifelines in your resident country and report any suspected case of COVID-19 or report to your personal physician or office of student Health in your community if you notice any of the listed COVID-19 symptoms as soon as possible for testing and subsequent care.

AN ONLINE OR INDIRECT CONNECTION WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY FAR FROM YOU:
This can help give hope and peace to the already troubled world especially among international students.

DEVELOP HOBBIES THAT CAN HELP KEEP YOUR SANITY AND MENTAL HEALTH:
Health is a broad word as it encompasses mental, physical, social well-being, hence developing a new hobby, reading a highly rated book or watching a show or movie can help keep an individual at home, maintain sanity and peace and reduce the spread of Corona Virus.

BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Boosting your immunity is a good business and an excellent step towards staying safe during this COVID-19 outbreak. Eat a lot of fruits and veggies as well as supplements.

SELF-ISOLATE AND ACT ACCORDINGLY ONCE YOU SUSPECT THE SYMPTOMS OF CORONA VIRUS:
Ensure to self-isolate (stay indoors and completely avoid contact with other people) and ensure you call your country's lifelines to report yourself or someone else if you notice any or all the symptoms of COVID-19. By doing this you can save your live and that of others!
